Sensei Matthew Thomas
The chief instructor at SKS, Mathew Thomas, has been on a karate journey spanning over 50 years. His extensive career includes service as a retired Law enforcement professional, and his current role as a Karate instructor within Whitworth University's Physical Education program. His expedition into the karate world commenced in the late 1960s, marked by intense training in Shaolin Long Fist or Chinese Long Fist (Changquan). Throughout the 1970s, he immersed himself entirely in the practice of Shorin-ryu and delved into Kempo during its later years. From the mid-1980s up to the current day, his unwavering commitment has been focused on attaining mastery over the principles and skills of Shotokan.

Laura Thomas, boasting an impressive 35 years of martial arts training under her belt, is a dedicated expert in the realm of self-defense and awareness, particularly tailored to women and children. Notably, she has had a fulfilling career as a retired staff nurse at Veteran's Hospital in Spokane and throughout her illustrious martial arts journey, she has consistently displayed her versatility as an instructor by conducting karate training classes that cater to a wide range of individuals.
